Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting  11-4-97.


Present: KWB, RMB, DJAC, BWK, ALL, MS.


ALL   Testing APD recovery after neutron irradiation, at present needs to
      be done every day but next week every other day. 3 APD's irradiated
      and 2 have developed problems. One breaks down at 155V (recoverable
      by "curing" at 190V for 1/2 hour) and one with an intermittent bad
      internal connection.
      Work delayed on beam hodoscope because of APD work.
      Before ISIS start up need to:
      Finish beam hodoscope.
      Push Martin Torbet to complete long term APD irradiation rig.
      Improve cooling to crystal support in brass box.
      Hall probe in BM1.
      The HP digital scope has disapppeared from the dark room in Lab 7,
      will arrange for the fitting of push button combination locks to
      Lab 7, Workshop and darkroom.


KWB   Discussing geometry with BWK. Next week will get onto noise
      problems in ISIS test beam.
      Will write up ISIS test beam data.


MS    Updated data bases and crystal records.
      Ordered electronic components for filtering HV for APD's.
      Looked at additional ADC cards for PC also purchase of Graphic
      interface program medium (Labview), full price #1595, RAL gets a
      35% discount but the agreement is about to run out.
      There are other options but similarly priced and there is Labview
      experience at RAL and CERN.


BWK   Looking at crystal geometry and super crystals.
      Has a program to produce similar design to Medusa.
      Working on program to get Brian Smiths data into GEANT.
      Next week LEP 2 workshop in Oxford.


DJAC  Showed models of 6x6 crystals in cardboard and aluminium, at the
      moment gaps are 2.2mm.
      Going for flat wall face at the moment, will look at curved face
      later.
      Discussed programme with various people.

RMB   Discussion on possibilities for the endcap project and the problem
      of manpower costs.
