MINUTES OF MEETING held on 18th April 1997 present - DJAC, KWB, MS, PSF, BWK, ALL. KWB - Produced staff effort figures for OPAL decommissioning. Produced staff effort figures for PPD effort in building endcap. Looked at geometry problems. Next week, meetings at CERN. MS - Investigated further on LabVIEW (buy). Sorted what extra bits required for extension boards of PC plug-in ADC. Next week, scanning program and noise in test beam system. PSF - Sheffield last week when successfully produced some part blocks. 2 different grades of hafnium, from each of two sources, used OK. Data logger working again, monitored temperature of crucible and furnace. Have 2 full size blocks (20x30x130) so still need 8 more. 1kg of hafnium, from Russia, waiting shipment from DESY. Priority - to make full sized blocks with good hafnium before investigating why other hafnium doesn't work. Next week, arrange meeting at Sheffield after 19th May 1997, measure part blocks (go to Sheffield following week). BWK - Acting as backup for Fred Wickens in PPESP work. Geometry investigations into endcap construction, now understood enough to start implementing in GEANT. Next week, implement geometry in GEANT. ALL - Still tied up with testing irradiated APDs. (an aside by Dave - the data Laurie has been taking has shown a 2-3% change in gain, so is valuable data and essential to carry on) To involve Laurie in less testing he has managed to get agreement that someone in Technology should assist him in doing the measurements. Martin Torbet(Technology)has taken the equipment, for the long term irradiation tests, over to ISIS. The equipment for Dave Britton, he does not yet know exactly what is required, so this on hold. The HP scope has been found at IC and will be available when he needs it. Next week, more APD testing and hopefully restart hodoscope work. DJAC - Preparation of PPESP document. 2nd draft ready for checking. Regional Centre meeting now on Friday 2nd May 1997, choice between Brunel or IC as venue still to be resolved. Monday 5th May1997 (Bank Hol.) dead-line for submitting PPESP document. Next week, meetings at CERN. Martin Sproston 21st April 1997
