Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting   8-8-97.


Present:  DJAC, PSF, ALL.


ALL   Finished plumbing for flushing of magnet cooling pipes in R 5.2.
      Can circulate water at 30 litres/min through system.
      Cleared up clean room in Lab 6 ready to construct beam hodoscope.
      Have materials for construction of hodoscope and improved temperature
      stability for crystals in brass box.
      A/L till 29/8.


PSF   Using Laser group's new spectrophotometer for transmission measurements
      of glass made from Russsian HfF4 and Russian doped PWO samples.
      Transmission not very good and large variations.
      Suspect Ni,Cr, and Fe contamination in glass from Russian HfF4.
      2 kg. of new Russian HfF4 due to come over in next 2 weeks, check
      for contamination before making glass blocks or make small glass
      sample first.
      Next week work at home or Sheffield.


DJAC  This week at CERN discussed ECAL funding in Technical board meeting.
      Discussions on ECAL poster design for display at CERN.
      Discussed with John Connolly consequencies of radiation levels in
      ECAL Endcaps for preamps and electronics.
      Wrote minutes of meeting with PPARC on 29/7 on preparation of documents
      for submission and approval of CMS and Atlas by PPARC, OST and Treasury.
      Next week, ECAL week at CERN.
