Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting 18-7-97. Present: DJAC, PSF, BWK, ALL, MS. ALL APD irradiation work almost complete, just one set of readings per day for 2 weeks to check gain stability of control APD. This week made new mounting for EG&G APD to mount on brass box for scanning PWO crystals from PSI. Fitted fully screened Pt100 thermometer. Working on pipework for Sulphuric acid flush of magnet cooling pipes in test beam area. Fibreoptic has arrived for beam hodoscope and is a perfect fit in the EDM machined grid to fit on multi anode PMT. Plan is to commission hodoscope in the ISIS run starting on 6-9-97. VPT test magnet in R5.2 to be commissioned during this time ready for testing with new "armature" in September. Still need Hall probe in BM1 before next cycle. MS Set up APD in brass box, tested with PWO 762 and then scanned 4 new crystals which were scanned at PSI. Scanned Paul's glass blocks, initial data which showed a fall off in yield close to the photodetector was due to the rough data containing pedestal data in the arithmetic mean. When cleaned up the effect disappeared. Next week scan glass towers in ISIS. BWK This week, wrote a draught note on End cap geometry, another draught soon. Worked out corner co ordinates for crystals and supercrystals, sent list of numbers to Len Denton, will post on WEB. Will agree Fortran package to use with John Hayes. Need to change program slightly to analyse test beam data. PSF Will polish glass block ends for tower run. Persuading Russians to give more HfF4, sent them data on blocks made so far, showed timing curves. Next week look at yield data, look at Russian doped samples in test beam. Found source of lead bricks for Cs137 source castle, for irradiation of doped samples. DJAC Lead Tungstate crystals sent from PSI to Germany then air freight to UK, took 2 days to RAL. Wrote ECAL Endcap minutes for CMS week. Discussions on geometry with Bruce and Len. Next week, CERN Monday for ECAL Technical board, Tues. CMS UK meeting at IC then RAL. We have 2 VPT's from St Petersburg, they are with Eddie Bateman for evaluation. Laurie Lintern 24-7-97.
