Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting  25-7-97.


Present:   RMB, DJAC, BWK, ALL.


BWK   This week, UK CMS & ECAL meeting at IC, after the meeting showed
      John Hayes crystal position calculations. There is a discrepancy
      with his calculations but he understands why.
      Cutaway crystals are assumed complete by BWK.
      Len Denton now has access to supercrystal corner co ordinates.
      Second draft of Endcap geometry note sent out and comments received,
      another draft ready by end of next week, it is posted on CMS UK WEB
      page, will get it on to main CMS page.
      Showed scan plots of PWO crystals previously scanned at PSI. There
      are some double points at same position along scan which may be due
      to change of Pre amp, APD or crystal temperature.
      Difficult to compare with PSI scans at the moment as data presented
      differently, have PSI raw data so will do a comparison next week.


PSF   Not at the meeting, but results presented by BWK.
      BM1 problem - when this flips and needs a retune the plot of glass pulse
      heights show a different curve suggesting the beam energy changes by
      around 15%.
      Ranging out of beam in glass at 405 MeV/c shown by putting beam through
      21mm & 30mm of glass, plots consistent.
      Consistent decay time for all blocks except the contaminated P246B.
      Looked at Russian doped PWO crystals from Russia.
      More HfF4 from Russia at the beginning of August.


ALL   This week, still taking readings on APD for neutron irradiation paper,
      but this is the last week.
      Plumbing for flushing out magnet in R5.2 is almost complete despite a
      shortage of items in stores. Expect to do the acid flush next week
      after circulating water to test the system, risk assessment required.
      
RMB   This week, meeting at IC Tuesday. Working on financial concerns.
      Required DAQ/Tracker profile, supplied by Geoff Hall.
      Effort for Trigger - no manpower, spoke to Peter Sharp about this,
      he will talk to GEK.
      Received guide from Swindon office on documentation for PPARC approval.
      Work on 2 Opal editorial boards and feedback interviews.
      Working on figures for steering committee and finance board.
      Next week at CERN Mon/Tues for these meetings, then RAL.


DJAC  Tuesday IC meeting. Proof reading core document.
      Ammending CMS ECAL Endcap meeting minutes.
      Dave Barney would like notification of UK CMS ECAL meetings and minutes.
      Reminder of list for ALL, Magnet in R5.2 - commission, beam hodoscope
      for ISIS run starting 6/8, new conducting brass support for PWO crystals,
      more temperature readout along crystal, Hall probe in BM1 for next cycle.
