Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting 13-2-98. Present: RMB, BWK, ALL, MS. BWK Opal work earlier this week. Drafting Technical note on Monte Carlo of Endcap work. Generating simulation data, Alveola data can be changed in program. Will run program with various materials. RMB notes: 2500 CHF/Alveola in Carbon fibre composite, Ecole Poly. can do it for 1/4 cost in glass fibre. Technology FEA study for CF comp gives flexure of 12 microns which is over designed so some hope for glass fibre. ALL Magnet state in R5.2: The cooling circuit is OK now but on trying to bring on the power supply found various defects in the interlock system. Geoff Martin will be trying to sort this out this weekend. Clearing up Test beam area for safety committee tour next Monday. Started work to modify 4T armature for 1.8T tests, hope to complete next week. RMB This week gave talk on Opal to department and Ken Peach on future plans, for grants committee. DJAC gave talk for CMS. Worked on define deliverables for Memorandum of understanding. Next week A/L 3 days then return to prepare for Battle visit to CERN. Report from DCI: Chris Selby to make Brunel VPT test box for RAL. Talked to Electron tubes re. next iteration of prototype VPT's. They are considering his proposals. MS Working on test beam with crystals/VPT's comparing with field of Opal test magnet on and off. First estimate looks like field effect is a factor of 2. Checked light yield in alveola wrapped in Tyvec and unwrapped. first estimate looks like 15% fall off unwrapped. Next week ISIS off so run LED tests. Laurie Lintern 19-2-98.
