Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting  17-7-98.Present:  RMB, GD, PSF, BWK, ALL, MS.MS    Sorting and cataloging data prior to giving access on a web      page, make sure data look sensible.      Checking Haida's text for report.      Set up Gillian with Labview on PC in Lab 7.      Next week CERN, 10 days on Opal.BWK   Working on Endcap/barrel transision region simulations.      Scan across gap showing energy loss vs rapidity.      Plot of events losing 20% and 80% shows reduction to a few      percent when endcap is extended by 3cm on TDR dimension.      Call from JC to allow increase in crack size. Simulated      crack size 1mm and 2mm with more events being lost into      the low energy tail, although 1mm probably not disasterous.      RMB agreed with JC to * investigate the effect of  going* from      0.5mm to 0.8mm front, 1mm back.GD    Working through Labview tutorial. Next week try to communicate      between Labview and Pauls ADAM module.ALL   Registered Gillian for all relevant passes etc and safety      courses.       Getting components together for multi vpt test rig in 1.8T      magnet. Started making single can to be housed in modified      4T armature for initial tests and stepper motor driven      rotation. Waiting for estimate for digital lock on R5.2      control room, when fitted we will move in new PC.      Looking at various drivers for control of magnet, stepper,      vpt etc. National instruments Labview compatible are easiest      to use and most expensive, could use Modbus are even ADAM      but this involves us in more work.PSF   Setting up Gillian with Labview and ADAM module.      Prepared lecture for presentation course.      Presentation course Weds/Thurs. Prepared lecture for Sept.       glass conference at the course. Presented this to course      on Thursday.      Adel reqested data on transmission/refractive index of FH      glass, sent Brunel data and transmission data.RMB   Vancouver conference, leaving Tuesday for 9 days, back to      RAL then 3 weeks A/L.      PRH has done more 4T work on Ham. vpt's, data written to      Excel files. One tube does not have noise problem when      varying anode/dynode voltages outside certain limits so      it maybe that this problem can be overcome.      Rigidity of anode mesh being seen as less of a problem,      more likely problems due to soft tubes.      One Ham vpt had only 20% gain reduction at 4T.      PRH at RAL on Monday.
