Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting 4-9-98.Present: RMB, DJAC, GD, PSF, BWK, ALL.BWK There was a data mismatch between CM Sim and the mechanical positioning of the Endcap. This was due to one of the two titles banks in CM Sim not being changed, namely the off pointing parameter D left at 1.3m instaed of 1m. Showed plot of varying the off pointing distance D around the interaction point. With D negative performance (Energy resolution and low energy tail) is poor but improves and flattens out from 0 (IP) to + 1.5m. Endcap/Barrel simulation paper is now ready.GD Working with Labview. The stepper motor drive does not work at the moment, will not communicate with PC via RS232. To date the following units have been driven by Labview: Adam unit, HT supply and LeCroy 7200 'scope. The gauussmeter has been read only. Still to do are the ADC card, Camac interface and Stepper. Bruce will liaise on software with Gillian who will produce write up before returning to college (2 weeks) Bob thanked Gillian for her work during the summer.PSF Prepared paper for Sheffield conference on non oxide glasses, (next week). Working on Thesis, 3 chapters are now 3/4 complete. Yearly report required for Royal society award, PSF has contacted Russians about this. After the meeting Paul gave his presentation for next week's glass conference.ALL Wired up Stepper motor drive card, unfortunately the PC does not find it on RS 232. All voltage levels look OK, pursuing this. Starting to fit VPT in can with board etc. ready for rotating in magnet. The digital lock has now been fitted to the HEP beam line local control room, Maggie has a key if you forget the number, which I will circulate. Portable electrical tool testing next week, R1 labs Weds 9th, R1 first floor Thurs 10th.HA VPT report almost complete, Bruce will check it. Ran VPT 102 increasing the LED flash rate which gave problems with the pre amp. Return to college in 2 weeks. Bob thanked Haida for his work during the summer.RMB Cost review for Endcap this week. Writing talk on Vancouver conference for CERN next Weds.DJAC CERN Monday, discussions with JLFaure on size of Endcap. H2 data results on MSC given to CMS UK meeting Tuesday. Electronic noise and equivalent energy to high, 1in. tube may bring this down to TDR level of 150 MeV. Discussions with BWK and LD on crystal geometry and services to determine size of Endcap. Mock up model will show how to pack in components. Next week CERN, Technical co ordinating meeting, ECal Technical board to discuss crystals. CMS Technical management committee, show expected position of Endcap. Bogorodisk managers at CERN next week, discuss possibility of 30 crystals for end October. 2 Boules at CERN, Endcap size, should be cut at CERN in the next 2-3 weeks. ACCOSS machines set up at CERN in basement of Bt 27, they take barrel crystals 23cm, maybe one of the two machines can be modified to take Endcap crystals 22cm.
