Minutes of meeting held on 25th September 1998present: DJAC, ALL, KWB, PSF, RMB, MS, BWKALL - Stepper motor finally driven from LabVIEW (RS232 transmit/receive problem) Problems getting parts required to build into proper system (stores no longer have the necessary parts) Electrical testing in test beam area. to do - check out hodoscope for return of ISIS beam.KWB - OPAL run coordinator work.NB. Ken asked about the programme of work in the near future. Hodoscope needs including into trigger The ISIS beam daq system needs checking out with PWO762 The mini SC will be back on 5th Oct, when all nine crystal + VPT assemblies need testing in beam. Three crystal + VPT to go to John Connolly Two VPTs to be removed and studied, one very good, one rather poor Crystal(s) to be checked with PMT Crystal(s) to be checked with 1" VPT One crystal to be depolished on one side then retested Check reflectivity, wrapping/no wrapping (depolished crystal)PSF - Glass conference paper well received Talked to several people regarding non-oxide glasses, some had tried scintillating glasses, all had given up, not commercially viable. The inconsistency of output in the blocks could have been due to oxide states, particularly Hafnium 3+ Paper written with Peter Hobson, back from referees, needs more work. Helped to put into good English the Royal Society paper from Valentine Thesis, no work this last week.RMB - Last week CMS week This week follow up from CMS week Royal Society paper needed financial information Reading Kate's thesis Signed order for next prototype ET VPTs Was unable to go on visit to Electron Technologies (Ken Peach and Derek Imrie went)it seem they are interested in getting more involved than just producing the VPTs (for all practical purposes Electron Technologies is same as Electron Tubes)MS - Did some more correcting of Haider's second report, on the small coil work and e-mailed them to him Modified the 1.8T magnet test box for full photo-cathode illumination Finally managed to speak to Adrian Marsh and arrange to collect a tested Stephenson amp Sorted the problem, of the failure to arrive, of the LabVIEW driver for the Hytec 1330 PC to CAMAC interfaceBWK - Tidying up the Royal Society paper Have Gillian's report on the work she did on LabVIEW Simulation work, debugging CMSIM, running jobs to verify that conclusions haven't changed as result HCal video conference Next week, CERN 'till Wednesday PPESP preparationsDJAC - Interactions with Technology Department after CMS week Model of support plate now back in R12, with modified arrangement 10 card readout crate now available, fits on voltage distribution crate with just two connectors, no wires/cables. Being taken to CERN for ECal week Agendas for ECal week Arrangements for visit to lab in building 27, ECal week JFC has now done outline of planning for super crystals over the next two years (to end 2000)Martin Sproston 25th September 1998
