Minutes of the meeting
			held on 16th July 1999


Present - PRH, DI, MS, DJAC, PSF, CAXP, KWB, RMB.

PRH -	Major things happening at Brunel, department is now
	Electrical Engineering and Electronics, and the new head is
	Steve Watts.
	Also moving again to the area refurbished for the new department
	Additional staff members interested in CMS work.
	PPC visit, informal feedback - impressed with both BaBar and CMS
	PPARC studentship been accepted for CMS work.
	Passive irradiation of HV components for Martin Torbet
	The source in the radiation facility is being replaced on the
	10th August, PPARC funding involved so may improve our access
	Extrusion proposed for assembling the high field test system
	is being evaluated by another project.
	Irradiating VPTs.
	Can now do high illumination of photocathode at 4.7 Tesla (will
	be commissioned when Derek finishes tests on Melz VPTs).

DI  -	Retested 3 old Hamamatsu VPTs, Dave to take 1 to CERN, and one
	to MS for lifetime test.
	Low field system will be moved as part of the reorganization.
	Now have method of measuring pulsed gain that follows the same
	shape and is very close in value to the DC value.
	Melz VPTs exhibit excess currents, from the cathode, if
	anode/dynode voltage exceeds 80V.

	Next week, Test next four Melz VPTs.
	documents to Dave for inclusion in web pages.

MS  -	Lifetime measurements on VPTs.

DJAC-	Annual Review at CERN, talks are on the web.
	Milestones for EDR now in two parts, supercrystal build for April
	next year and backplate and service in the autumn of next year.
	First 10 crystals to be irradiated to check they are OK before the
	next 100 are produced.
	PPESP document, planning for Regional Centre - Dave went over some
	of the aspects involved with this document and the implications
	of possible shortfall in Russian contributions.

PSF -	Irradiation of glue samples.
	Tests on mechanical strength.
	Transmission measurements, especially looking at reproducibility
	of spectrophotometer.

KWB -	Talk on Slow Controls.
	JIF computing bid for LHC.
	Not yet done HV distribution.

RMB -	Annual Review.
	Results from 5 x 5 tests seem to be giving necessary performance.
	Preshower got unexpected results.
	Cost figures for PPESP with Dave and JFC.
