Quickcal 28 May 1999

				    Minutes of the meeting
				    held on 28th May 1999

Present - KWB, RMB, MS, BWK, PSF, ALL, DJAC.

KWB -	Meeting with Martin and Laurie on 1.8T system, will aim to measure
ped and signal mean at zero degrees + same at theta degrees.
Question of how to measure current draw by individual VPT so ones
drawing excess current can be isolated, no definitive solution
	agreed upon so far.

[Discussion then followed and it was agreed to proceed with one
axis (final system likely to have 6 axes with 8 VPTs per axis)
using existing VPTs, this should hopefully iron out any problems.]

VAT teach-in (all RAL CMS accounts are VAT free)
{meeting decided MS should take on VAT when John Coughlan moves to
	Technology Department}

RMB -	APRs, finally finished.
Thought about measurements of lifetime of VPT photocathode, talked
to
MS about doing tests at RAL.

Next week, PPESP and Grant Committee papers.
	CMS Steering Committee.

MS -	Lifetime measurement preparation.

	Next week, continue

BWK -	Continued work on realisation of outer edge of endcap (still using
-3 radius), simulation with 1000 events of single photons (50 GeV
Pt)
close to edge for different solutions appeared to give same
	performance for physics.

	Next week, continue simulation.
Work experience student coming to meet people.

DJAC-	LHCC - milestones
Crystals for Ecal, order for R + D to tune production placed but
	not the actual crystal order.
More of endcap info/drawings on to web.

ALL -	Magnet control system mounted in area, control appears to work,
now making box to monitor currents.
Stepper motor/gearbox for 1.8T system has arrived.

PSF -	JNCS paper sent off again.
Irradiation tests on RTV, four samples (four control samples not
being
irradiated), 2cm distant at 4krads/hr will give 800krads at 1052 hrs

	on Tuesday next week.
Transmission measurements of materials in samples.
	Thesis.

	Next week, measure irradiated samples.
	New glues.

The meeting was then joined by people from Bristol, Brunel and IC for the
special VPT meeting, see separate minutes for that meeting.
