Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting 24-9-99. Present: KWB, RMB, PSF, DCI, ALL, CAXP. ALL PC Beam line magnet control system commissioned with Andrew. Magnet current control is very good, usually within an amp at any momentum. Still problems with some read back channels, have some ideas for fixing but no time at the moment. Linear collider work - progress slow so had to put some time in, good news is we have a mechanical craftsman in R12 workshop to do this work. Next week mechanical design of magnet/VPT test rig. DCI Discussed with PRH future VPT and radiation damage work at Brunel. 2 new students from September, one on VPT test rig, one on irradiation studies of VPT glasses and PWO. New graduate student for modelling radiation damage. Physics 30 Ci Co60 source down to 4 Ci, going away for regeneration, will be away for 6 weeks. Biology have 2000 Ci source new and available. Looking into Chemistry 4.7T solenoid availability. Discuss with Vladimir at CERN Meltz VPT's. The one with the silicon grid is dead. Testing best Meltz against Hamamatsu tube. Next week revising specification for VPT's. KWB Last week CMS week. Will be working on CMS tracker. Discussions with John Coughlan on tracker. Worked on status report for PPESP. Looking at lifetime plots from MS. RMB Last week CMS week at PSI. APD contract placed with Ham for 130k APD's. Discussed PWO crystal production, difficulties in 1500 crystals for next year. First batch yield was 50% needs to be better. PPESP document now on the Web. Next Friday submission deadline for Blue sky projects, PSF to submit scintillating glass bid. CAXP Writing LabView programs for ADAM units and CAMAC, now reading CAMAC and ready to write final program to read out VPT's. PSF Assessing data for radiation damage tests on glues, cannot damage glues with gammas or neutrons. Start writing this up. Blue skies - proposed co-dopants in glass to develop fast scintillator. Discussed with John Parker. PPARC forms to fill in for next week. Laurie Lintern 29-9-99. scintillator
