Minutes Of Quick Calorimetry Meeting   14-4-00

Present:   RMB, DJAC, PSF, BWK, ALL, CAXP, JHW.


BWK      Put 3x5 deconstructed supercrystals in Endcap simulation. Job now running firing 
               photons into this layout.
               TDR-6 fits all engineering parameters but is the worst case, the circle looks much
               better packed with 3x5's.
               Showed plots of poor energy resolution around periphery of Endcaps  at TDR-6.
               Ken Peach has asked Bruce to be CMS rep. for computing Grid.
               Started quick VPT meetings for those involved in VPT/Magnet test rig, first last
               Thursday but will hold them now at 10am Friday before Quickcal meeting.
               The meetings will discuss status of components for the VPT test rig, search for
               RS preamps from various sources. Dave gave a summary of where there
               were possible sources from which we could obtain the 48 we need.
               Hope to have VPT rig fully working by June.
               Re organising CMS EE web pages, Joules has written some new pages which will
               be incorporated.


RMB      Reviewing submissions to Grants committee. Glen P will have to choose to work on 
               CMS or LHCb, we should consider a bid for a new RA.
               Attended VPT tender opening at Zurich on 4/4. The evaluation committee met to 
               open  tenders from 4 manufacturers.
               There should be 500 VPT's manufactured by summer this year.
               Rehearsal for RRB on Monday.


PSF        Working on Helium rig, it is now built and operating using an ET tube. Gas is being
               admitted but some leaks to sort out.
               Sheffield has placed advert in New Scientist for postdoc to work on the Scintillating
               glass project.
               APR completing. Next week some A/L.


CAXP    Last week preparing poster for House of Commons poster presentation, event was
               very succesful and caused a lot of interest.
               This week working on box for glue tests, monitoring temperature, humidity and
               pressure to see how changes affect glue set time.


JHW      Working with Paul on Helium rig. Sorted out data acquisition system, at present
              monitoring HT and anode current, showed plot of anode current falling overnight.
              Produced Web pages for CMS EE website, can be put directly onto site.
              Next week more website and run through all electronics set up for VPT readout.
              Modify/make more power distribution boxes and obtain an RS pre amp to readout
              VPT in Helium rig.
               

DJAC    Looking at dimensional boundaries around EE  and assessing conflicts with other
              detectors. 
              APR consulting this week.
              Engineering review next week with Justin, he is working on detector integration.


ALL      Completed installing Photonis #64 VPT into prototype VPT/Magnet test rig, had
              to re model can due to length of tube, set up in magnet and got a good response
              illuminated by LED, then found magnet would not come on due to ISIS demin.
              water loop shut down. This will be down for 5 weeks now depriving us of the 1.8T
              magnet.
              Linear collider work. APR initial completion and discussion.
