Minutes of Quick CMS Meeting   7-7-00

Present:  KWB, RMB, PSF, DCI, BWK, ALL, MS, IRT, AMT.

BWK   Gave summary of todays VPT meeting:

             5 Rows of  VPT cans are now glued, 1 row to go.
             Final prototype can wired for noise testing.
             Large variation in mean on preliminary noise test.
             Ordering extra memory for database PC.
             MS ordered 2 barcode readers one for RAL, one for Brunel.
             No preamps from Bristol yet.
             PRH email on progress, torpedo is ready but DVM had to be
             returned for repair.
           
             Simulation work to address calibration problems where we are not covered by
             Tracker, look at energy sharing as a means of calibration.
             Discussions with Alex on tracker coverage problems and simulations.
             Learning LabView.
             Next week look at CAXP LabView with Alex.

PSF      Discussions with Joules/Brian on VPT gluing rig, Brian thinks it is not worth
             doing a go/no go check on faceplate angle as this will show up if it’s bad and
             will be a manufacturers problem – out of spec.
             A carousel method is favoured  for the gluing.
             Discussions with Alex on glue drying time vs temperature and humidity, will
             build a test rig for this. 75% and 30% RH available with crystal mixtures.
             Discussions with PPARC on grant (scint. glass) finances, interviewing 
             candidate for this job.
             Thesis draft is ready.

IRT       Testing tracker readout chain in Lab, some VME problems.
             Writing user note for FED.
             Working on cluster finding algorithm, cluster finding efficiency.
             
KWB     Opal all last month.
               Setting up tracker test beam.
               Attended PRR for tracker.

ALL        Completed prototype VPT can for noise tests.
               Working on VPT leakage current test box, marked up PCB’s for HV reed
               relays and hope to have most hardware complete next week.
               Some Linear collider work.

DCI        External examination season last 2 weeks.
               Meeting at Brunel this afternoon on Torpedo progress.
               No recent irradiation results on samples of  Russsian glass, showed early
               results on Russian samples compared to Ham. sample.

AMT      Software complete for glue test box work. Calibrating moisture meter.

MS        Away for 2 weeks but RIE lifetime tests continuing, fell further 3%.
              In 20 days it is 70% of original response but 20% lost in the first day.
              Looking at prototype VPT can for noise, some large variations in mean,
              not completely understood yet. Minimal pick up from LED.
              Next week use Joules’s RS preamp to test VPT in new can. 

RMB    Reported on ECal week at CERN.
             Problems with APD’s, some rad. hard and some not from the same batch.
             Hamamatsu are looking into solutions.
             J.L.Faure to go to China to look into crystal manufacture situation.
             Confirmed dates, 2005 for Barrel, April 2006 for EE.
             Bruce gave a good presentation on adding 3x5’s to the EE perifery.
             Pushing EE EDR for November 00.
             Selection panel Monday. Discussions with Justin on new allocation of
             cost centres.
             Made a start on writing NIM paper.
