Minutes Of Quick Calorimetry Meeting 31-3-00. Present: KWB, RMB, DJAC, PSF, PRH, BWK, ALL, CAXP, IRT. DJAC JLF proposed two scenarios for Barrel/Endcap crystal production, the first has 50/50 Russia/China and the second 66/33 Russia/China. We go for the second option. Initial proposal was to build 1SC/week for 2.5 years then 4SC/week, starting mid 2001 (JC/JG proposal) we finish all SC’s by Jan 2006 and last D by Sept 06. Current LHC startup is April 2006. Switching from 1 to 4 SC/week thought to be a bad scenario so will probably try 1 to 2 to 4SC/week finishing SC’s in mid 2005 and complete D by end 2005. This includes no partial SC’s and saves 2000 crystals. Bruce and Engineers will have to work out physics and engineering considerations for infill crystals (3x5 often finds a place). Build plan is now on Web (CMS Crystal Endcap). PLC promising 100 crystals end April and 300 by end of the year. RMB Grants review taking a lot of time. Meeting to work out how to complete ECAL by 2005, suggestion to step up crystal production by paying for more furnaces. Discuss financial considerations with Ian Corbett at RRB. CAXP Producing poster on CMS Ecal Endcap for House of Commons poster presentation. Drew up risk assessment for work experience student. PSF Prepration for humidity/drying tests for glue. Mechanical glueing assembly required by summer, prepare document on this with Brian Smith. Tests at CERN with 3145 RTV measured refractive index wrongly. Paul LeCoq has sent another RTV which he would like radiation hardness testing by Paul in the same way as 3145, may repeat 3145 while doing this. IRT Hardware – modified sequence generator LDVS format to go into APD. Testing cluster algorithm to go into FED. Large clusters from angle tracks have same resolution as small clusters. PRH Worked on Grants application. Has produced his first CERN theory pre print, Stephen Haywood gave very useful assistance. VPT testing system moving forward, need stepper motor drive as RAL system. Measuring leakage currents successfully using floating DVM. Photonis with getters looking good in field. Termination for VPT leads needs some consideration to minimise soldering operations at the various test stages. Radiation hardness tests in faceplates now at 5Mrads (none done from Photonis). Dose rates for 10 years LHC on web (DJAC). Would be good to put details of Brunel irradiation facilities on Web. KWB Opal work. Continuing with Photonis lifetime tests, 10% droop in a few hours then steady climb to 140% of original response. to be continued over the weekend. Will try and do a lifetime test on an RIE tube. Another trick we can try to recover photocathodes is to raise tube to 55 degC overnight. ALL Linear collider work. Preparation for Labs safety tour and attendance. Re make VPT can to house Photonis #64 in prototype VPT Magnet test rig. Pulleys and belts arrived for VPT Magnet test rig, initial mechanical machined components are due today. Delay in mounting plate due to oversight by OM. Laurie Lintern 6-4-00.
