Minutes of Quick Calorimetry Meeting   19-5-00.


Present: KWB, RMB, PSF, BWK, ALL, MS, JHW.

ALL      Assembled 8 VPT cans for first line of VPT test rig, on attempting to glue the 
              hubs onto these cans found the hubs were not square with the cans. This was found
              to be due to warping of the bottom plate after machining. The plate has gone now
              to attempt flattening in a press, if this fails there is a scheme of light machining
              which should fix the problem. In the meantime continue fitting up a prototype can
              for housing VPT.

PSF      Working on Helium ingress rig, slow steady rise of current, may be due to double 
             pulsing. May use QVT, we need a new ‘scope.
             Ordered gluing dispenser machine for gluing VPT’s to Supercrystals.
             Discussions on gluing with Joolz and Brian Smith.
             There was a discussion on screening, may consider screening all sides of crystals.

JHW     Reported on Alveola strength testing, looks good.
             Drawing from Brian Smith of Al can inserts, will distribute.
             Work on Helium ingress rig.
             VPT test rig web site, put on flow chart for testing at RAL and Brunel, should be
             accessible very soon, password protected.
             Work on design of VPT dimensional go/no go measuring rig.

RMB     Grants committee, Selection panel work  and APR’s.
              Looking at progress with regional centre following Ecal meeting at IC.
              Cost estimate for regional centre has been made available to Bob and Justin.
            
KWB     APR work and 2 draft papers for Opal.

BWK     Simulations with 3x5 deconstructed supercrystals inserted around outer edge of
              EE, override positions for simulating engineering acceptability.
              Exchanges with Dave and Ian on possiblity of extending tracker out, not ruled out
              apparently. Problems calibrating EE if we cannot extend tracker information from
              eta 2.5 to 2.6
              First version of bar chart for VPT test rig.
              Opal work.

MS        Continue lifetime tests with RIE VPT, still going down, 1% since yesterday, test
              has run for 10 days now down to 61% of initial response. 
              At 200nA 5 days equals 1 year LHC running.
