Minutes of Quick CMS Meeting  29-9-00


         Present:  KWB, PSF, BWK, ALL, MS, AMT.


BWK      Worked with Fred Wickens on preparation for PPESP.
                Calibration work with Alex.
                Preparation for CMS ECal seminar on 9/10.


MS          VPT magnet tests on RIE tube.
                Mods to magnet control program with JHW.
                Problems with magnet current running out of control – Geoff Martin replaced
                a control card and all is OK so far.
                Sorting out mechanical problems with belt drive of VPT test rig.
                

PSF         Working on Helium test rig, data does not look right, probably noise problems.
                Bob suggested just letting Helium in for 24 hours.
                Testing whole thermal rig, obtained very small thermistors, will not solder so
                had to devise crimping method.
                Made heating plate, control good to +/- 0.05 deg C.
                Modified mechanics of box, LabView and control systems being set up.


KWB       Mainly on Opal, attended Opal week.
                Tracker electronics last week focussing on FED.
                Existing FED’s on VME boards, 8 channel.
                Batch of 30 boards ordered, another 30 required.Tracker data is bulk of CMS data flow.
                Looking at data compression with graduate student, 20% saving so far.
                This week CMS week, version 30 of CMS installation plan got approval.
                One Endcap to be installed 2005, 2 by 2006.
                Next month annual review of CMS by LHCC.
                Next Thursday CMS UK management meeting.


ALL         Modified VPT mounting in magnet test can to accommodate large plug of RTV on base
                 of RIE tubes. This is the final mod. and production can commence. R12 workshop
                 working on components of mounting to speed up assembly.
                 Some linear collider work.


AMT       Working with Bruce on calibration problem and with Paul on He rig/Thermal rig.
