Quick VPT Test Rig meeting -
minutes
Date of meeting: 4 August 2000
Venue: RAL
Present: B Kennedy, L Lintern, A Turner, J Williams
1. Mechanics
- Base plate now moved to magnet area. JHW planning support
structures. JHW & MS will set up a single channel of the rig using the existing
electronics/readout for further VPT field tests.
- MS has contacted cleaners to get tiles in the magnet area stripped
and sealed. Estimated cost less than £180; work should be done next week.
- Awaiting radiation survey of magnet to check whether special
precautions are required for drilling (magnet used to be used in NIMROD, so may still be
slightly active).
2. Electronics
- Preamps - one 5-channel card has arrived (apparently with 1 dead
channel). Another preamp card + motherboards are expected from Bristol. DJAC
has 25 channels of preamps (single-channel cards) which could also be used.
- ALL still wiring up anode current leakage box. On leave next
week, so box will not be ready until the following week. 48 SHV cables must also be
made up.
3. Single-channel tests
- MS has been carrying out field/angle scans on old ET tubes using the
LabView daq program.
4. Plans for next two weeks:
- Design and build base plate support.
- Test a single VPT in one channel of the rig, as in item 1, using the
stepper motor to set the angle. This should show up any noise problems.
- Noise tests on Bristol preamp cards as soon as possible.
- Instrument and test complete row of 8 VPT holders as soon as leakage
box & preamps are ready.
5. AOB
- JHW has rearranged the PCs/Macs in Lab 7 for the glue and He test
rigs.
