Quick VPT Test Rig meeting -
minutes
Date of meeting: 11 August 2000
Venue: RAL
Present: P Flower, B Kennedy, M Sproston, A Turner, J Williams
1. Mechanics
- JHW has designed support structure for baseplate - awaiting
parts.
- Floor in magnet area has been stripped and sealed.
- Magnet radiation safety - advice from RP expert is to collect swarf
for later testing. If it is found to be active, it will be disposed of as low-level
radioactive waste.
- MS has mounted stepper rmotor control box in rack and cabled it up.
Hopes to test Labview prorgam with stepper motor today.
2. Electronics
- Preamps - motherboards (and another 5-channel card) sent from
Bristol on Wednesday, but have not yet arrived. Next batch of cards not yet ordered
by Bristol; no estimate yet on delivery date.
- Will need multichannel RS232 system for magnet and HT control.
3. Plans for next two weeks:
- Build base plate support structure.
- Finish, test and install anode current leakage box.
- Test a single VPT in one channel of the rig, as in item 1, using the
stepper motor to set the angle. This should show up any noise problems.
- Add magnet and HT controls to main LabView control program.
- Noise tests on Bristol preamp cards as soon as possible.
- Instrument and test complete row of 8 VPT holders as soon as leakage
box & preamps are ready.
- Peter Hobson will visit RAL next Wednesday to see the test rig.
5. AOB
- JHW will order digital camera today. Has removed password
protection on VPT web pages, at request of DJAC. On leave next Thurs & Fri.
- He rig - RMB needs more information on He tests for NIM paper.
PSF will supply this.
- Glue testing rig - AMT/PSF have removed faulty pressure sensor.
Rig is now ready for drying experiments. Will attempt to take humidity to
below 25% - glue manufacturer recommends at least 35% for satisfactory drying.
