CERTIFICATE    RUMORED. I have only seen one reference to this tag that is supposedly new in the Netscape 3.0 version so it is not included in the main list. It is cited in the book: "Hybrid HTML Design: A Multi-Browser HTML Reference" by Kevin Ready and Janine Warner. This book is an otherwise excellent resource, and the details given about this tag appear far too detailed to be imagination. I have looked everywhere else I can think of, including many sessions at Netscape's pages, and e-mailing/calling Netscape itself. They disavow knowledge of this and the other related tag referenced in the same section of the book: PAYORDER. Please! E-mail me if you know more about this tag.

DFN    This was considered a "Proposed Element" in some early versions of the HTML 2.0 DTD, but was not listed in the final 2.0 DTD specification at all.

EMBED    The listed attributes for this tag are the most common. This tag allows a way to expand the capabilities of the browser, and the attributes given to a plug-in can vary widely.

ENTITY    RUMORED. This tag does not appear in the list but exists here because I have seen reference to it in what I consider to be a reliable source: WebTech's HTML Validation Service webbified Internet Explorer DTD. I have tried and failed to verify that this tag exists or that there is ANY other information anywhere on this tag on the net. Please! E-mail me if you know more about this.

FETCH    RUMORED. This is another tag that is not in the list but exists here because I have seen reference to it in what I consider to be a reliable source: WebTech's HTML Validation Service webbified Internet Explorer DTD. I have tried and failed to verify that this tag exists or that there is ANY other information anywhere on this tag on the net. Please! E-mail me if you know more about this.

LINK    This tag has just been introduced in Internet Explorer 3.0, and there is little if no documentation on what is supported in this area. In the one example I have found, only the TITLE attribute has not been mentioned, so support of this attribute in this browser is tentative at best. If you know details, please e-mail me.

LISTING    This tag was listed as an "Obsolete Element" in the HTML 2.0 DTD but is still listed under "Deprecated Tags" in the current HTML 3.2 Draft. It is still understood by some browsers.

P    The P tag is a block structuring tag that did not require a closing tag under the HTML 2.0 specification rules. HTML 3.0 and above specifications changed that, but for backwards compatibility the lack of a closing tag causes no problems in current browsers.

PAYORDER    RUMORED. They disavow knowledge of this and the other related tag referenced in the same section of the book: CERTIFICATE. Please! E-mail me if you know more about this tag.

PLAINTEXT    Another tag listed as an "Obsolete Element" in the HTML 2.0 DTD. It is still listed under "Deprecated Tags" in the current HTML 3.2 Draft and is still understood by some browsers.

SCRIPT    This tag has been added to the latest HTML 3.2 draft but exists only as a place holder for the next version of HTML which will detail the implementation of the tag.

STRIKE    This was considered a "Proposed Element" in some early versions of the 2.0 DTD, but was not listed in the final 2.0 DTD specification at all. The obsolete HTML 3.0 specification altered this tag to <S>, but the current HTML 3.2 Draft has returned to the original HTML 2.0 "Proposed Element" syntax.

STYLE    This tag existed in 3.0, but was much different than it is now. It is now a tag that has been added to the latest HTML 3.2 draft as a place holder for the next version of HTML which will detail the implementation of the tag.

TEXTAREA    The WRAP attribute is something of a mystery. I have seen references that say both IE 3 and Mosaic 2 may support this, but no official reference exists which suggests this. I have been having a hard time verifying this attribute's behavior. If you know details, please e-mail me.

U    The underline attribute was considered a "Proposed Element" in some early versions of the 2.0 DTD, but was not listed in the final 2.0 DTD specification at all. It has since re-appeared in the now obsolete HTML 3.0 specification draft and HTML 3.2 Draft.

XMP    Yet another tag listed as an "Obsolete Element" in the HTML 2.0 DTD but is still listed under "Deprecated Tags" in the current HTML 3.2 Draft. It is still understood by some browsers.
