Tag History
- What is it?
- The COL tag is an optional element contained within the
COLGROUP grouping structure. It allows an
author to specify table properties based on column groups rather than
the traditional row structure (TR,
THEAD, TBODY and
TFOOT.) Attributes specified in the COL tag
override those found in the parent COLGROUP structure.
- Attributes
- Span
- 2
| 3 | 3.2
| IE3A1 | M
| N
- Required? No
- Description:
This attribute specifies how many columns the current column specification
applies to (default value is 1. The number of
total columns in a table should equal the number of cells specified later in
the table structure, but it is possible to specify a SPAN value of 0, which indicates that the current COL element spans
all remaining columns. Using the SPAN element does not actually DEFINE
a column grouping, it is rather a method used to more easily specify shared
column attributes.
- Values: 0
or a positive integer.
- Width
- 2
| 3 | 3.2
| IE3A1 | M
| N
- Required? No

the column width (usually pixels.)

complex markup structure in HTML. If you have other general questions
about this structure see the Table Overview.
